The Mirror Opposite

So while Microsoft could be considered rushing release of the Xbox 360; which might cause consumers to spend money down the road when they are forced to purchase missing features. Sony might be pushing back the release date of the PS3 by a year so they can continue to ride the PS2 gravy train. Joy.

I'm torn whether or not this is a wise decision for Sony or not. On one hand, delaying might give Microsoft time to strengthen the consumer support for the Xbox 360 (something which current polls show to be lacking) and take away market share from the PS3. However, on the other hand it will give the market time to calm down after the release of the Xbox 360 and Revolution, giving people enough time to be willing to invest in a second (or third) next-gen console. You also need to wonder if the PS2 would continue to sell well with the Xbox 360 and Revolution already on the market.

Sony has a wonderful way of barging in with their latest and greatest way too late. PS1, even dreamcast kicked it's ass. PS2, Xbox blew it away, and so did gamecube. It's like sony matches last year's technology up with consoles using today's technology. And now it seems they are going to do it again. I swear the only thing keeping sony in the console market is that they manage to sign some deals with people who make decent games that don't solely rely on the technology behind it such as graphics to make it fun. Don't get me wrong, i'll take real fun games over fancy looking crap any day, but why can't we have fancy looking real fun games?

Well, some of it might be the price. For the most part, the companies which can afford to sink the time and money into producing a really fancy looking game are more concerned with making money than producing a really great game. A lot of the truly great games are put out by smaller companies which may not have the resources.
